Mark 16:1-8

Apr 9, 2023    Pastor Will Fillingham

This sermon explores the significance of the empty tomb, drawing from the Gospel of Mark, specifically the narrative of the women discovering the tomb after Jesus's crucifixion. It highlights three distinct stages: the tomb of hopelessness, where the women initially fear the worst and question who will remove the stone; the tomb of fear, where they are startled by the presence of a young man in white robes, confirming that Jesus is not there; and finally, the tomb of wonderment, where the women, now filled with bewilderment and fear, flee the tomb, unable to comprehend the revelation that Jesus has risen and is now "gone ahead of them." Pastor Will encourages us to move beyond our own "tombs" of limitations and embrace the transformative power of fresh revelation, just as the women are ultimately called to share the news of Jesus's resurrection with his disciples.
