The Promised Place: O Little Town of Bethlehem

Dec 14, 2025    Pastor Debbie Courtney

Pastor Debbie explores the significant prophetic connection between the town of Bethlehem—aptly named the "House of Bread"—and the birth of Immanuel, or "God with Us." She uses a narrative device involving an imaginary angel named Bubba to emphasize reading the biblical narrative with a fresh perspective, highlighting how God's divine plan unfolded through unlikely and ordinary individuals. Specifically, the lineage leading to Christ is traced through figures like the barren Rachel, the foreign widow Ruth, the forgotten son David, and the ignored prophet Micah, culminating in the teenage girl Mary. Ultimately, Pastor Debbie reveals that even a worldly decree from Caesar Augustus was sovereignly orchestrated by God to ensure Jesus was born in Bethlehem, demonstrating that God often uses the "ordinary, unknown, unwanted, neglected, the least" to accomplish His purpose, emphasizing that availability to God is more important than ability.
